Bobs Furniture donated $20,000 to 12 schools in Maryland in support of arts and education programs. The funds were presented to all the winning schools by Bob Kaufman, co-founder of Bob’s Discount Furniture, at the grand opening of the new Rockville store.
Kaufman presented the Maryland “Celebrate the Arts” check to Mattawoman Middle School in Waldorf for $5,000. Doug Donlin, principal of Mattawoman Middle School, was at the grand opening to receive the donation. Bob’s also presented a $5,000 check to Twinbrook Elementary School, selected by the Rockville City Council.
“It’s our pleasure to support and give back to the worthwhile causes in the communities we do business in,” said Kaufman. “The grand opening of our Rockville store is a great opportunity for us to meet with representatives from the community, and kick off our donation program in the area.”
In addition to the two $5,000 donations, Bob’s also donated $1,000 checks to the following 10 Maryland schools. These funds are made possible through money collected in donation jars, which are located in each store’s cafe.
• Cabin John Middle School, Potomac, Md.
• Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School, Rockville, Md.
• Green Acres School, Rockville, Md.
• Luxmanor Elementary School, Rockville, Md.
• Melvin J. Berman Hebrew Academy, Rockville, Md.
• Newport Mill Middle School, Kensington, Md.
• Redland Middle School, Rockville, Md.
• Rockville High School, Rockville, Md.
• St. Mary’s School, Rockville, Md.
• Tilden Middle School, Rockville, Md.
Every month, Bob’s randomly selects schools in the communities near its stores and grants a donation ranging from $1,000 – $5,000. With stores across New England, New Jersey, New York, Maryland and Virginia, Bob’s has donated money to hundreds of schools over the last 20 years.
